I actually started this as an entry for a contest on Sketchoholic…the theme there was “nightmare”. I think it fits pretty well for “atmosphere” as well though! I think you’ll find a story in there somewhere.I was thinking a lot of The Rescuers when I did this piece. Madame Medusa is hands down one of the best Disney villains. I think it’s because she’s a true sociopath with great style. (And amazing Milt Kahl animation.) PS, the color on this looks great on my Cintiq, but I have a feeling it might be blown out on other monitors. Blerrrgh.

Very evocative, and even though it’s spooky, it still seem s like fun…and filled with the joy of adventure and discovery. The colors and the lighting make it look enough like a ride that it seems less threatening and more dreamlike. I can even hear the crickets and the swamp critters!

Fantastic! For the record the colours look great on my monitor, but I know what you mean about the cintiq. It has a depth of colour to it that just doesn’t translate to a normal monitor. It makes me question which display to believe. In your case though it looks amazing on both.

This is extraordinary! Regardless of your original intent for this illo, you beautifully captured the Atmosphere topic. This is just so lush and rich that it’s hard to look away. Truly delightful, work. I’m inspired!

I love this. It might have been inspired by The Rescuers, but I first thought of Monkey Island 2 when I saw it.
