A few things here from the latest Sketchcrawl in Pac Heights…

As some of you may know, I had the pleasure of working with Brittney Lee for two years here in San Francisco at Three Rings. (Before she was whisked away to the Mouse House in Burbank.) While there we had many great coworkers, one of whom recently asked us for a fun collaborative commission. Sarah and her husband Colin, are about to embark on a year-long world trip and wanted something to remember their time in San Francisco. There were quite a few landmarks to cram in there, but I think we managed to do it.

So here’s a look at the process:

I started the piece with a sketch.

Then I painted the background of the sketch. (Leaving everything on layers for Brittney to print separately.)

Then I handed it off to Brittney and she worked her paper cut out magic on it!

The final piece is 9×16″ framed. Made in Photoshop & real life cut paper and paint. (It is pretty neato seeing my sketch Brittney-ified. Plus, paper cutout BICYCLES? Yeah, she crazy.)

And some close-ups:

I’m really happy with how the final piece turned out and so were Sarah and Colin! Trivia: This isn’t the first time Brittney and I have collaborated…we made an entire film together at RIT! Maybe one of these days I will get around to uploading it to Youtube or something.

Ever been to the Palace of Fine Arts in San Francisco? It’s one of those places that just doesn’t really belong in the city. I find it magical and fun and wanted to do something in appreciation of it. This print will be available on my etsy store!

Palace of Fine Squids

Had a great time on this last crawl in SF. Great friends, weather, and food! Started in Portsmouth Square and made our way up Columbus into Washington Square park. Here’s some sketches.

Took a while to get these scanned in, but here’s some drawings from the last Sketchcrawl in San Francisco. Color added later in photoshop.
